SUNSHINE REGION GAMES PLAYERS COMPETE AT PRESIDENT’S CUP IN MARYLAND

Three players from the Sunshine Region senior Games team, the Pirate
Ponies, scrambled with two players from the New Jersey Region senior
games team, the Camo Queens, to compete at the President’s Cup held
during the Fair Hill International CCI*** in Elkton, MD, on October
18, 2014. The President’s Cup in sort of like the Super Bowl of
mounted Games competition for teams who competed in the USPC National
Championships in the senior division.

The three Florida players, Natalie T. from WBPC, riding Lulu,
Samantha W. from SCPC, riding Annie, and Hana S. from
CRPC, riding Sonny, enjoyed meeting and getting to know Heather P.,
riding Shotzie, and Camille L., riding Quest, from Jockey
Hollow Pony Club in New York State, but part of the New Jersey Region.
For the President’s Cup the team played as the Pirate Ponies in red
and white striped pinnies and red bandanas.

The whole team had one practice together, without equipment, the day
before the competition! and during that practice, Heather sprained her
ankle badly!! In addition to Heather playing with a taped and painful
ankle, Hana’s horse, Sonny, had never played in a games competition
before, and had a bit of a nervous break down once other ponies
started galloping around near him!!! In spite of these handicaps, the
team had some good games and had a lot of fun!! In addition to the
games competition itself, the team had the privilege of walking the
three star cross country course of Fair Hill International with Sally
Cousins, and watching top USA and international riders compete in the
two and the three star in dressage, cross country and stadium jumping,
all against the background of the beautiful fall colors.

The top three placed teams for the President’s Cup were all from the
northeast, Surge, Wild Things and No Breaks, No Problem, while forth
place Pirate Ponies traveled the farthest – an 18 hour drive. Sunshine
Region Games Coach Pam Johnson thought our team showed great
sportsmanship and played in the great tradition of Pony Club Games.

Thanks to all the parents and supporters who made this trip possible,
and CONGRATULATIONS to all for showing up!!!
